Winter in Bulgaria: how to relax at this time of the year

After the high season ends in Bulgaria with the end of summer, the crowds of tourists thin out and traveling around it becomes a special pleasure. It is when the streets of the resorts are not crowded, and you can fully enjoy the special Balkan beauty of the local nature. The local diversity of landscapes, coupled with the compactness of the country, plays into the hands of vacationers - even in a short time you can gain a lot of impressions from the diversity of the Bulgarian nature. To do this, it is enough to drive only a couple of tens of kilometers away from the house, and the landscape will already begin to change.

When planning a trip to Bulgaria in winter, it is worth considering the local climate. There is an opinion that in the south of Bulgaria it is much warmer than in its northern part. This is not entirely true, since the difference in temperature is only a few degrees. But winters in the south are really milder, and in summer there are higher temperatures than in the north - but of course, if we talk specifically about the coast, and not about the mountainous regions. It is always colder in the mountains than below, and in winter the snow lasts longer here than in areas located at a lower altitude. In November, homes in Bulgaria start to turn on heaters and light the fireplace as the nights get cooler.

December can already bring snow - in Sofia and, of course, in the cities in the mountains at this time it can already often fall, while some swimmers on the coast can still swim. January is usually the coldest month, but it all depends on the specific city. For example, in Burgas, the average temperature is from 0 to +5 degrees. And spring usually begins in February. Thus, winter in Bulgaria is very short, in its Russian interpretation it is far from being everywhere, even if frost comes into its own, it does not last long.

Lovers of Bulgaria often note that coming to the country in winter is even more interesting than in summer, because you are not distracted by the sea. After all, you can go not only to the capital Sofia (a trip that summer vacationers usually postpone for "another time", but also to the mountains in the Rila monastery of the same name, the largest in the country, which was founded at the end of the 10th century. It contains the relics of John of Rila and the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Hodegetria".

In Bulgaria, despite the fact that in many seaside resorts life dies down with the end of summer, there are many places where it hits all year round. These are Burgas, Sunny Beach, Ravda, Pomorie, Sozopol, Nessebar and many others. The most popular ski resorts in the country - Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo - gather a large number of people, many of whom claim that the quality of skiing here is not worse than in the Alps, and the prices for accommodation, lifts and rental of ski equipment will be several times lower. International biathlon competitions are held on the slopes of the Borovets ski resort, and the ski school is recognized by the British operators as the best ski school in Europe.
