How to get from Russia

There are several international airports in Spain, the main ones are in Madrid and Barcelona. But there are others, most of them serve the tourist resorts of the Mediterranean coast.

During the summer season, there are many charter flights to the resorts of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands, but regular flights are mainly to Madrid and Barcelona.

You can take a direct flight from Russia to Spain from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Ufa.

Regular flights from Moscow are operated to the capital of Spain - Madrid (Iberia, Aeroflot, Transaero, S7), Barcelona (Iberia, Vueling Airlines, Aeroflot, Transaero, Ural Airlines), Malaga (Aeroflot), Alicante (S7) and in Tenerife (Transaero).

Starting June 2, 2012 S7 Airlines will operate flights from Moscow to Valencia.

Direct flights of Rossiya connect St. Petersburg and Barcelona. The airline Ural Airlines flies from Yekaterinburg and Ufa to Barcelona.

It will take about 5 hours to get from Moscow to Madrid, 4-4.5 hours to Barcelona, and about 7 hours to Tenerife. The flight time from St. Petersburg to Barcelona will be approximately 4.5 hours.

Internal transport

Air service

Air transport is perhaps the fastest way to get around Spain. All popular resort destinations and almost all major cities in the provinces of Spain have their own airport. Mallorca and Ibiza (Balearic Islands), as well as Tenerife and Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) are connected to mainland Spain by air.

Domestic flights are operated by Iberia, Spain Air, Air Europa, and Vueling Airlines.

From Madrid to Barcelona, the flight time will be about an hour, to Alicante - 40 minutes, to Valencia - 30 minutes, to the Balearic Islands - 1 hour and to the Canary Islands – 2.5 hours.

Trains, buses

The railway connection in Spain is developed at a high level. The Spanish State railways are operated by RENFE (Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Espanolas - The National Company of Spanish Railways) (www.renfe.es ), here you can find the schedule of all destinations, the cost of tickets, as well as book tickets.

You can also use the trains of regional companies that are located in three regions of Spain: Catalonia, Valencia and the Basque Country.

Depending on the speed and level of convenience, trains in Spain are divided into several types. You can travel in two classes: the first (primera) and the second (segunda). In addition, there are night trains (Exspresos) and local daytime trains (Rapidos). The AVE high-speed train takes three hours to get from Madrid to Barcelona, and 2.5 hours from Madrid to Seville.

International trains run from Paris to Madrid and Barcelona, as well as from Barcelona to Zurich and Milan.

Spanish buses carry out international, intercity and urban transportation. Bus stations (estacion de autobus) can be easily found in all cities and resorts of Spain. The cost of travel by train and bus is about the same.

Water transport

There are many ferry lines on the Mediterranean coast of Spain that connect the coastal cities of the country with the Balearic and Canary Islands. Ferries from Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga and Tarragona run to the ports of Palma de Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza (Balearic Islands), and from Cadiz, Bilbao to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands).

Passenger transportation by sea is carried out by the Mediterranean company Transmediterranea.

In addition, the seaports of Spain are connected by regular communication with the ports of North Africa: flights from Malaga and Almeria to Melilla, from Algeciras and Fares to Ceuta and Tangier.

Rent a car, taxi

Spain's high-speed highways connect Madrid and the country's major cities. The main highways of the country are laid along the Mediterranean coast, which makes it easier to move between resort towns. In some regions, for example, in Catalonia, roads are toll-free. Traffic in Spain is on the right and the rules are almost the same as in Russia.

You can travel free of charge on roads marked with the letter "N", which are considered state roads, and municipal roads marked with the letter "C". And to travel along the highways marked with the letter "A", you must pay. The fare depends on the distance of the journey. You can pay for travel at the turnstiles at the entrance to the highway.

You can rent a car in the cities and resorts of Spain. When renting a car, you must present an identity document, as well as a driver's license (in two languages). The rental price ranges from 30 to 200 euros per day.

Taxis can usually be caught on the street, ordered by phone, or found in parking lots marked with a blue sign with the letter "T". A sign with the inscription "libre" means that the car is free. The fare is paid according to the meter readings.
