Estonia – an old friend for the Russians; similar climate, tradition, the Russian-speaking population, favorable conditions of life have traditionally contributed to the popularity of the country among tourists from Russia; and, though lately fewer of our fellow citizens buying property here, Estonia offers a quite Western way of life at lower prices.

Features of the budget

Estonia, the centre of the old world of Eastern Europe, famous for its beautiful natural landscape, ancient architecture, good environment, relaxed lifestyle and excellent quality products. There are not many immigrants, and most of them concentrated in the capital, Tallinn. Recently, however, interest in Estonia is enhanced by foreigners (except, perhaps, Ukrainians and Russians) who want to invest in local real estate. And since 2016 the children of residents born on the territory of Estonia, will automatically receive citizenship of the country.

Official state language is Estonian, and, despite the obvious attempts of the indigenous population to forget about the Soviet past, the Russian language is very common here, so our compatriots who have come to Estonia, will not face a strong language barrier.

Estonian prices vary depending on the region, as the most expensive city in the state is considered to be the Tallinn, its capital. According to the leading Estonian marketing research group TNS Emor, Estonian monthly cost of food basket is about €70 per person, with payment of utility bills "eats" in the month of almost €160 family budget (in Tallinn this amount is slightly higher). Of course, the real expenses have higher statistics, but given the fact that the average salary in Estonia is over €1000, after payment of all obligatory payments, the inhabitants of the country still remain available funds.

Because five years ago Estonia joined the area of pan-European currency, the official currency is the Euro (€).

Food prices

Although the price of "basic" Estonian products vary from region to region, seasonality, pricing policy of the trade network, as well as promotions and discounts, the average publish international portal Numbeo:

  • Milk (1 liter) – €0,59
  • Loaf of fresh white bread – €0,73
  • Rice (1 kg) – €1,02
  • Eggs (12 pieces) – €1,23
  • Local cheese (1 kg) – €6,07
  • Chicken fillet (1 kg) – 5,42 €
  • Fish (trout, salmon) – €7,5-8,5 for 1 kg
  • Fruit (apples, oranges, bananas) – €1-1. 4 per 1 kg

  • Bottle of wine – €5,3
  • Local beer (0,5 l) – €0,9
  • Imported beer (0,33 l) – €1,2
  • A pack of cigarettes (Marlboro) – €3,5

Gourmet in Estonia is waiting for an impressive variety of local products of the highest quality, but given the current ratio of currency prices for Russians will be much higher than in the home country, in particular, delicacies and meat. So, 1 kg of pork here costs €5 and the price of beef exceeds €10. A kilogram of meat beef-pork costs on average €5, about the same have to pay for 1 kg of sausages or sausage. Fresh fish can be purchased for €13 per kilo, traditional smoked meats and fish (from €15 / 1kg). Experts draw attention to the fact that visiting Estonia without tasting its milk products can be a real crime. Cheeses (€3-40 per kg), sour cream (€3-6 / 1 kg), cottage cheese (5 Euro / 1 kg), yoghurt (about €1 per liter) – appeared on the shelves of only fresh and high quality. You should definitely taste the cheesecake and cheese "kohuke".

On average, products in Estonia have to spend €250-300 per month per person that goes against official statistics. Of course, this amount will increase in case of frequent visit to restaurants, cafes and bars.

Clothes, accessories, gifts

Estonian shopping, given the current exchange rate, the prices will be comparable with the countries of Western Europe, that is, it cannot be called a budget. A classic for the ages, Levi's jeans here will cost €70, summer dress in a chain store in €35, shoes (sports shoes or leather shoes) in €75-90. In the heart of Tallinn you can find a lot of interesting shops and boutiques, which offer visitors unique designer clothing, shoes, accessories and gifts from Estonian designers. The focus of these institutions is the "fashion street" of the Baltika quarter. Here in popular store Les Petits Amateurs cute trinkets and fancy clothes will find authentic jewelry (bracelet of jade €25), unique gifts (men's apron with tie €47, felt Slippers €85), "eco-friendly" dress for €110, a designer scarf for €40. I live in Ida Virumaa. There is no work. If something you find 500 a month, that's lucky. The city government itself is fed from the Brussels Euro as appointed governors. Anyone who could have left. It was in our region 150 miles now 70 miles .... and so all is well welcome
