Sights of Abruzzo

Abruzzo's convenient location in the heart of Italy makes it a popular starting point for excursions to Venice, Florence, San Marino, Rome, Naples and Pompeii. Of course, the pearl of these places is the Abruzzo National Park, a must-visit. An indispensable point of the excursion program is also a rest on the picturesque lakes that lie near the cities of Compotosto, Barrea and Bamba. Scanno is a high-altitude lake located in the province of Aquilla, and one of the main attractions of the region. A few kilometers from the lake there is a medieval town of the same name, famous for its masters of jewelry and fantastic delicacy of lace. There is also a modern ski resort equipped with lifts and everything necessary for a comfortable winter holiday.

In the remote corners of Abruzzo, in the lost shady valleys, you can visit medieval hermitages cut right into the rocks. Of course, this is, first of all, the monastic hermitage of San Bartolomeo, located in the silence of the forests of Maiella and Morrone, in the Roccamorice municipality of the province of Pescara, and dating from the XIII century. It is literally carved into the rock, "hanging" over the sea at an altitude of 650 meters. This is a truly unique place that combines the beauty and majesty of nature and a man-made architectural object.

Abruzzo is a lot of ancient cities with ancient monuments of architecture and history. The highland castles of Rocca Kalascio are majestic buildings of a medieval fortress located at an altitude of 1,464 meters above sea level, in the city of Kalascio. It is these places, on the territory of the most picturesque Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, that have repeatedly become the filming location for feature films.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria di Collemaggio in L'Aquila was built in 1200 and is a mandatory point on the map of exploring the region. Grotte di Stiffe are truly phenomenal karst caves formed in the Neolithic era and located in the town of San Demetrio ne Vestini. An excursion with a review of unique stalactites and stalagmites runs along an underground river, periodically "breaking" with picturesque underground waterfalls.

Piccolomini Castle is an amazing creation of the Middle Ages, offering fantastic views of the Fucino Plain. After visiting the castle, you can go to the canyons of Celano, one of the largest canyons in Italy, carved in a very deep valley of the La Fos River. It is surrounded by picturesque rocks, the height of some of them exceeds 200 meters.

Abruzzo is a region that does not know boredom and allows you to combine a variety of "vacation scenarios" into one fascinating journey. The potential of Abruzzo as a tourist destination provides a lot of opportunities for investors, and the magnificent climate, ecology, developed infrastructure and relatively low housing prices are the choice of those who decided to stay here longer.
