Bali Immigration Service has recorded that from January to April 2026, the Ngurah Rai International Airport received more than 4.5 million people, of which about 4 million are foreigners. This is 10% more than a year ago. The head of the immigration office, Bugie Kurniawan, admitted that the current arrivals area is overloaded.

In this regard, the airport will restructure passenger traffic: additional visa application desks on arrival, quarantine control and online form filling points will be moved from the center to the side in order to speed up and simplify border crossing. At the same time, they continue to introduce automatic gates, but they are still available only to holders of electronic passports with a chip.

An interesting detail: for the first time in March, the leader in the number of tourists was not Australia, but Malaysia - 186.5 thousand people (17.1% of the flow). Australia is in second place (130.7 thousand), Singapore is in third (102.8 thousand). At the same time, the flow from India is growing rapidly: in January and March, 157.1 thousand Indian tourists visited Indonesia (+3.9% compared to last year), and almost 79% of them arrived through Bali.

In total, 3.44 million foreign visitors visited Indonesia in the first quarter of 2026 (+8.6%), and 1.09 million in March. The average foreigner spends about $1,345 per trip and stays for 10 nights. The government of the country expects to reach an annual figure of 13-15 million tourists.

The Indonesian authorities have long been planning to build a second international airport in the north of the island (Buleleng district), about which we we told you. The project, designed for 24-50 million passengers per year, should relieve the burden of Ngurah Rai. However, it has not yet received final permission due to local residents' concerns about the temples and the traditional way of life.
