Andalusia intends to introduce a new housing law in 2025, announced the head of the regional government, Juanma Moreno.
The law is currently under discussion and should be submitted to the Board of Governors early next year.
The initiative is aimed at creating more affordable land and increasing the supply of housing on the market. It is planned to release 20,000 subsidized apartments to the rental market within five years.
According to Moreno, the imbalance between supply and demand has worsened in recent years due to population growth and insufficient construction.
According to the Bank of Spain, there are currently 90,000 housing units missing in Andalusia, but this figure is probably higher as the region's population increases by about 25,000 people annually. In fact, by 2040, the population of the autonomy will grow by 700,000 people, with the most in the province of Malaga, more than half of this number.
