The cost of renting a home in Spain, according to Idealista, has increased by 11.5% over the past 12 months. In the 4th quarter, the increase was 3.9%.
At the end of December, rent averaged 13.5 euros per sq. m.
According to Francisco Inarreta of Idealista, the year 2024 "further aggravated the supply shortage and sharply increased prices."
The largest increases in rental prices were recorded in the Madrid Community (16.4%), Catalonia (12.4%), the Valencian Community (12.1%), Asturias (12.1%), Cantabria (11.6%) and Extremadura (10.8%).The smallest increase was recorded in La Rioja by 6%.
The region with the highest rents is Madrid (18.8 euros per square meter), followed by Catalonia (18 euros per square meter), the Balearic Islands (17.6 euros per square meter) and the Basque Country (14.4 euros per square meter).
The cheapest way to rent an apartment is in the regions:Extremadura (6.9 euros per square meter), Castile-La Mancha (7.4 euros per square meter) and La Rioja (8.2 euros per square meter).
