According to the NVM Real Estate Association, rental rates in the country have increased by almost 12% - this is the highest increase since the beginning of market data collection in 2014.
The rental cost in the second quarter of 2022 averaged 15.35 euros per square meter, which is 11.8% higher compared to the same period last year (13.73 euros). In new buildings, the growth was even more significant - by 18%, to 18.12 euros per square meter.
Of the five largest cities in the Netherlands, the highest rise in rental rates was recorded in The Hague (by 11.8%), while in Amsterdam and Utrecht, rent rose less significantly (by 5.1% and 7.4%, respectively).
Interestingly, in Rotterdam and Haarlem, on the contrary, rental prices decreased by 6.1% and 5%, respectively.
Analysts attribute the increase in rental costs in the Netherlands to high inflation, higher interest rates on loans and a shortage of housing.
