Starting from December 7, 2024, Australia introduced the National Innovation Visa (NIV), which replaced the visa for talented specialists.
This is an exclusive program for foreigners with outstanding skills in fields such as advanced robotics, quantum computing, and clean energy.
Applicants for a visa must apply application for participation (EOI)to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Ministry will then invite a limited number of people who have applied to participate to apply for the NIV.
The Immigration Service will process applications in the following order of priority:
- Laureates of prestigious international awards. These include: Nobel Prize laureates, holders of the Fields Prize, Booker Prize, or Olympic gold medal.
- Exceptionally talented people in their field who are supported by the relevant government agency of the state, territory or federal Government of Australia.
- People with exceptional skills in advanced technologies, renewable energy, low-emission technologies, and healthcare.
- Exceptionally talented people in the fields of agriculture and agrotechnology, resources, defense capabilities and space, education, financial services and fintech, as well as infrastructure and transport.
There are no age restrictions for NIV, and the English language proficiency requirements are flexible.
