The European Commission does not rule out the introduction of additional visa restrictions for Russian citizens. This was stated by EC official representative Markus Lammert at a briefing in Brussels.
According to him, the EU countries are independently responsible for their visa policies, however, additional measures may be taken at the pan-European level.
Lammert cited statistics: recently, the number of visas issued to Russians has decreased from 4 million to just over 500 thousand. Despite this, he stressed that the possibility of introducing "targeted restrictive visa measures" remains."This will be done in consultation with member states to further eliminate security risks," said a representative of the European Commission.
Have recently been made public data indicating that the number of Schengen visas issued to Russians increased in 2025 compared to 2024.
