Montenegro may introduce a visa regime for foreigners who receive visas to enter the EU, that is, for Russians, Belarusians, Chinese, Iranians and many others. This is reported by the Montenegrin media, citing unofficial confirmations from government sources.
Montenegro will have to take such a step, as this is a requirement for candidate countries to join the European Union.
However, the introduction of a visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus, the two countries from which the most visitors come to Montenegro, can have a significant economic and social impact.
In 2023, tourists from Russia became the record holders in the number of overnight stays. They accounted for 23.6% of the total number of overnight stays.
