The President of Montenegro, Jacob Milatovic, noted that he could not be satisfied with the winter tourist season, but was optimistic about the upcoming summer season. However, Milatovic is concerned about the EU's position regarding the introduction of visas, he considers this a problem.
The European Commission insists that Montenegro fully adapt its visa regime to the visa regime of the European Union. We are not in heaven or on earth, we are not a member of the EU and we are a tourist country. Of course, people don't want to go anywhere if they need a tourist visa, so I hope that the government will be able to convey our position, which is related to our national interests," the president said. The interest lies in having a single visa-free regime with as many countries as possible... It's not easy, but we will fight for our interests," he added.Currently, citizens of Russia and Belarus in Montenegro have a visa-free regime for 30 days, and Ukrainians for 90 days.
According to Milatovich, more than a third of all tourists are guests from other countries of the Balkan region.
Earlier, the head of state stated that Montenegro will be able to join the EU by 2028.
