The President of Montenegro, Yakov Milatovich, expressed optimism that his country will be able to join the EU by 2028.
According to Milatovich, he insisted on carrying out reforms to meet the criteria for membership in the European Union.
Montenegro's path to EU integration began in 2008.In the same year, the Balkan country applied for EU membership and in December 2010 received the status of a candidate for EU membership.
Milatovich stressed that a number of problems remain unresolved.
In October 2024, Hungarian Foreign Minister (current President of the Council of the European Union) Peter Szijjarto announced that Montenegro would close some chapters of the EU accession agreement in mid-December.
