The authorities of Badung have announced a comprehensive road relief program, which should bring tangible changes as early as 2026. The key element is the construction of four new highways designed to distribute the flows of transport and tourists.
Four new routes:
1. I'll print Melasti: a bunch of the main tourist spots of South Kuta.
2. Uluwatu Village Market - Uluwatu Road: an alternative route to the famous Uluwatu Temple to reduce the load on the main tourist arteries.
3. Banjar Semer - West Teku Umar: a new link between Badung and Denpasar for through traffic.
4. Subak Sari Banjar Semer (Kerobokan): expansion in one of the most problematic areas, where, according to drivers' jokes, "morning rush hours smoothly flow into evening".
Special attention is paid to Kerobokan. In addition to the construction of a new road, a new traffic pattern has been tested here for several months. According to feedback from drivers in local chat rooms, despite the initial confusion, the situation is gradually improving. The authorities do not plan to return to the old scheme in order to consolidate and assess the long-term effect.
Another painful point is Jimbaran. Here, at the busiest intersection, McDonald's has received permission to build an underground crossing. This project is part of a large-scale road scheme, and its implementation should put an end to "eternal stagnation" in this area.
All work will be accompanied by infrastructure improvements on other streets and increased patrols during rush hours. If the plans are implemented on time, traffic in key areas of Badung may become significantly freer by the end of 2026.
