The European Commission (EC) intends to radically revise its visa policy, combining liberalization measures for some categories of foreigners with stricter measures for others, Politico reports.
To attract investment and talent, the EC will consider the possibility of issuing multiple-entry Schengen visas for a period of more than five years. It is also planned to:
- Allocate funds for expedited consideration of applications from highly qualified specialists.
- Create a special visa support department within the Frontex agency to assist consulates.
In contrast, the visa regime will be tightened for countries that the EU considers "hostile" or risky. It is planned to amend the EU Visa Code for a more flexible and prompt response to a deteriorating security situation or the imposition of sanctions.
