According to the Finnish broadcasting company Yle, the inspection may affect all types of objects purchased over the past two decades. This measure is part of a legislative reform aimed at strengthening national security.
"Over the past 20 years, Finland has been too naive about real estate control," Hakkanen is quoted as saying by Suomenmaa. The minister explained that a large number of facilities owned by foreigners creates risks: in the event of a crisis, it will be extremely difficult to control them.
The tightening of regulation is linked, among other things, to assets related to Russia, the Teboil gas station network (linked to Lukoil) and the Zsar shopping center in Virolakhti, which a Russian businessman tried to acquire.
Recall that in July 2024 Finland has imposed a ban on real estate transactions for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
