Last week, the Finnish government submitted to parliament a bill that would prohibit foreigners from countries that pose a threat to national security from purchasing real estate in the Scandinavian country.

Note that those who already have Finnish citizenship or residence permit will not be subject to the restriction.

"The purpose of this bill is to limit the ability of Russians to buy real estate in Finland," said Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen. "We developed the bill because we want to limit all possible risks to the safety of people in Finland," he added.

Current legislation already allows you to ban the sale of a house if the authorities consider the transaction unsafe. However, as the minister said, the new law will simplify this task.

The bill will be discussed in Parliament this spring.

Another law is under development that will allow the Finnish authorities to inspect properties that have already been sold. However, we are not talking about the seizure of such facilities.

I must say that Russians' interest in Finnish dachas has already fallen due to the closed borders between the countries.
