Illegal immigrants who are employed in these fields can legitimize their status by obtaining a one-year residence permit and a work permit if they have lived in France for three years and worked in one of these professions for at least 12 months out of the last 24, according to Schengen.News.
The information may also be useful to those foreigners who are just planning to come to France after obtaining a work visa. If they apply for a job in one of the specialties on the list, it will be easier for them to prove to the migration authorities that their employer really needed to find a person outside France for this position, because it has already been confirmed that workers in this field are in short supply.
A shortage of employees often leads businesses to close. President of the Union of Professions and Industries of the Hotel Industry (UMIH)Franck Delvaux said that over the past 18 months, about 8000 restaurants have stopped working in France, with staff shortages being one of the main reasons.
According to Delvaux, the Paris-Ile-de-France region will benefit especially from the new measure, given that from 30 to 50% of foreigners living here work in the hotel and restaurant sector.
