The French government has facilitated the conditions for issuing a residence permit to foreigners who have professions in short supply on the labor market. These include: carpenters, masons, builders and foremen, farm workers and livestock breeders, locksmiths, mechanics, service workers.
Specialists from the list will be able to issue a residence permit faster through a special application processing system.
The new rules will be in effect until December 31, 2026.
Requirements for applicants:
- A job in a profession from the list for at least 12 months or within the last 24 months.
- Temporary residence permit for a period of one year.
- Employment by profession from the list and an application for permanent residence in France within the last three years.
According to the French Ministry of the Interior, in 2023 the number of residence permits issued on the basis of employment reached a record of 54,572.
The authorities issue the most residence permits to students. Last year, the number of residence permits obtained for the purpose of education amounted to 108,350.
