The French Government has put up for sale at discount prices 1700 properties, including chateaux, barracks and Parisian mansions. Part of the proceeds will go to pay off the large public debt. Budget Minister Francois Baruen said he wanted to ensure the transparency of these trades. According to him, France has a disproportionately large fund of state property, and tends to get rid of "useless and unadapted to modern needs" of buildings. One of the reasons is the start of trading in an effort to reduce the amount of public debt, constituting 1.49 trillion euros, but directly to his payment goes below 20% of the proceeds.
