"Anyone wishing to obtain a residence permit in Germany should not rely on social benefits to support themselves," writes the Bavarian branch of the Conservative Party in a leaked article. "They should be able to provide for their livelihood through work."
German offices for foreigners already take into account the employment status and income of applicants when providing an EU Blue Card. Applicants for this type of work and residence permit must earn at least 48,300 euros before taxes.The early federal elections in Germany are less than two months away. The CDU/CSU alliance is leading the polls with 31% of the vote, which means that the parties are likely to lead the next coalition government in the country.
Sweden has already taken the path of stricter requirements for immigrants. She doubled the income requirements for foreign residents in November 2023. Foreigners working in Sweden must now earn at least 2,483 euros to be eligible for a residence permit.
