Russians in the period from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, received 12 790 green cards in the United States (an analogue of a permanent residence permit), Vedomosti writes. Previously, record figures were only approaching ten thousand (9774 in 2016 and 9811 in 2015).
The United States of America issued the most green cards to Mexicans last fiscal year (179,830). The top 5 included India (76,020), Cuba (74,040), the Dominican Republic (66,450) and China (58,820).
Citizens of Ukraine received 11 210 green cards (11 719 a year earlier), Kazakhstan 2610 (1637 a year earlier).
In total, in 2023, 1 173 640 foreigners became holders of green cards. This is the maximum since 2016 (1 183 505). The increase is due to the reopening of U.S. institutions after the pandemic.
Last year, 10 130 Russians became US citizens. The figure is close to the record of the last 10 years, reached in 2022 (10 420).
