Amendments to the legislation on the digital nomad visa have entered into force in Croatia.

What are the changes:

  • The visa is now issued for 18 months, instead of 12 months, as before, with the right to a one-time extension. This means that you can live and work remotely in Croatia for a total of three years. It is allowed to take family members with you.
  • The requirements for applicants' monthly income have become stricter. Now the applicant needs to earn at least 3295 euros per month (previously the threshold was 2870 euros). When applying for a one-year stay, confirmation of funds in the account in the amount of at least 39,540 euros is required, and when applying for an 18-month stay, at least 59,310 euros.

Nevertheless, compared to other European countries, Croatia remains relatively accessible and attractive, especially considering that digital nomads do not pay income taxes here.

In the first nine months of 2024, according to the latest data from the ministry, 824 applications for a digital nomad visa were submitted, 342 of which were approved.Russians are the leaders among those wishing to obtain a residence permit for Croatia under this visa program (105 approved applications)and Ukrainians (88 approved applications). They are followed by Americans with 51 approval ratings, and the British with 12.

As of the end of September 2024, 629 digital nomads had a residence permit in Croatia.
