The Indonesian authorities officially launched the Global Citizen of Indonesia (GCI) immigration program on January 26, 2026. However, contrary to the name, there is no question of a passport, since dual citizenship is not allowed in the country.
The program provides an indefinite permanent residence permit and is designed for foreign citizens with blood ties, kinship, historical ties or strong ties to Indonesia. This category includes former Indonesian citizens living abroad, descendants of former second-degree Indonesian citizens, legal spouses of Indonesian citizens, and children from mixed marriages, including family members of GCI residence permit holders through the family reunification scheme.
GCI status allows you to permanently reside in Indonesia, freely enter and leave the country without extending visas and limited time limits.
