Kenya, following other countries, announced last week the launch of the Digital Nomad Visa.
To obtain a digital nomad visa for Kenya, applicants will need to present:
- valid passport,
- confirmation of remote work for a company abroad,
- proof of income in the amount of USD 55,000 per year,
- proof of residence in Kenya (apartment rental agreement),
- a certificate of no criminal record.
It remains unclear how long the visa will be valid and how much it will cost to get it, but it is known that it will open the way to long-term residence in Kenya and even citizenship.
There is no information yet about when this visa program will work.
It is expected that the digital nomad visa will contribute to the development of tourism, innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
This year, Kenya has also simplified the lives of tourists by introducing a 90-day visa-free regime for citizens of many countries, as well as a new electronic travel permit (ETA) for transit passengers connecting in the capital of Nairobi.
Kenya is known for its safaris, especially in the Masai Mara National Reserve, and the pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean. Hiking in the years and watching flamingos are popular among travelers.
In 2023, the country received about 2 million foreign tourists. The government aims to increase this number to 5 million by 2027.
