Cyprus will resolve all the technical issues necessary to join the Schengen area by the end of 2025, President Nikos Christodoulides said.
Cyprus has been a part of the European Union since 2004, but is not part of the visa-free zone.
The Schengen information System began operating in Cyprus in July 2023.However, the process of assessing Cyprus' readiness to join the Schengen area continues.
Currently, only Cyprus and Ireland from EU countries are not part of the Schengen area.In January 2025, the visa-free entry zone to the EU expanded with two new full members, Romania and Bulgaria, and now consists of 29 states.
Christodoulides also said that the country is in the final stages of negotiations on the abolition of the visa regime with the United States.Source: SchengenNews
