The Spanish Congress voted for a housing reform that will allow the eviction of occupiers of empty houses within 24 to 48 hours. 180 deputies voted for this proposal, 162 against it.
Thus, after almost four years of discussions, the parliament approved инициативу The People's Party (Partido Popular, PP), aimed at combating squatters.
The bill also contains sanctions against tenants who have stopped paying for housing, and other measures aimed at making more affordable apartments available in the country. Among them are:- Bringing public land to the market for the construction of affordable housing.
- Reduction of the time for the transfer of land to the housing construction category from 12 to 6 years.
- Simplification of urban planning and prohibition of cancellation of master plans for formal reasons.
In November 2024, the Spanish Congress will already принимал a bill containing clauses on salaries, but the Senate vetoed it.
Squatting, or occupying empty real estate, is a painful issue in Spain. At the end of 2023, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that more than 15,000 apartments in the country were occupied illegally.The process of evicting paychecks from their own homes is lengthy and expensive. The situation will change with the adoption of the new law.
