The political and economic situation in Greece has a direct impact on the country's property market. And, if the citizens of Greece closely follow the situation and took a waiting attitude, then the interest of foreigners to the housing of Greece, on the contrary, has skyrocketed. Particularly active in the search for housing in Greece are citizens of Russia, says Forbes .
Leading Greek real estate portal Spitogatos.gr noted the decline in requests for housing from the citizens of Greece for a significant 38% immediately after the Greek Prime Minister announced the referendum on June 27.
On the contrary, foreigners became much more interested in real estate in the country. Spitogatos.gr reports an increase in the number of requests from foreigners by 60% before the referendum - and 130% in the first days immediately after the announcement of its results. Spitogatos.gr General Manager Dimitris Melahroinos notes: "An increasing number of foreign users are deciding that now is the time to look at Greek real estate."
The strongest interest in housing in Greece was demonstrated by Russian citizens: the number of requests from them increased by 244% after the announcement of the results of the referendum in comparison with the period before it. Also Italians (+ 194%), French (+ 156%) and Turks (+ 105%) also "distinguished themselves". The number of requests from US citizens (+ 114%), Australia (+ 105%) and Canada (+ 96%) also increased.
