Latvia is on the way to completely ban citizens of Russia and Belarus from buying real estate in the country. The relevant bill "On the restriction of transactions that threaten national security" was adopted by the Seimas in the first and second readings earlier this year. The bill has not yet been adopted in the third reading. Discussions, in particular, raise the question of whether it is necessary to extend the restriction to those who have a permanent residence permit in Latvia or the European Union.
The law prohibiting transactions for the purchase of real estate by Russians, in April of this year adopted in Finland. It was initiated by the Ministry of Defense, which explained this measure for reasons of national security.
