International students studying full-time at a university in Malta will be able to return up to 70% of their tuition costs in the form of a tax deduction, provided they find a job in the country within nine months after graduation.
Malta is home to only about 500,000 people, but the island boasts several higher education institutions and institutes of additional education. In many of them, tuition is noticeably cheaper than in more popular countries for education, such as the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and Australia. For example, one year of bachelor's degree at the Global Banking School will cost 6,000 euros.
In addition to the price, another benefit is the opportunity to receive a tax deduction in the future. Thus, the country demonstrates an interest in graduates staying on the island.
According to the Malta Association of English Language Schools, the number of students in 2023 increased by more than 20,000 compared to the previous year and was only 5,000 less than in the record year 2019 (83,610 students).
International students are increasingly choosing not only the Big Four countries to study in, but also other destinations in Europe, as states such as Australia and Canada adhere to restrictive immigration policies.
