In Greater Lisbon and the Algarve, real estate is 50% more expensive than the average in Portugal. In contrast, housing is much more affordable in Alentejo and the Central Region, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). It costs 50% less than the national average.
According to information for the 3rd quarter of 2024, the most budget-friendly places to buy real estate in Portugal are Alentejo (113,329 euros) and the Central Region (124,095 euros).
Three other regions have lower rates than the national average: Oestes and Vale do Tagus (155,977 euros, 30% lower than the national average), the autonomous region of the Azores (164,344 euros; -26%) and the North (185,212 euros; -16%).The five regions where buying a home will cost the most: Greater Lisbon (371,704 euros, 68% higher than the average price of housing sold in the country; Algarve (342,972 euros, +55%); Madeira (238,314 euros, +8%); Setubal Peninsula (226,159 euros, +2%); Porto agglomeration (223,258 euros, +1%).
