The authorities want to allow owners of "golden visas" Active Investor Plus to purchase real estate. Currently, foreigners, with the exception of citizens of Australia and Singapore, cannot freely buy housing in the country. This restriction has been in effect since 2018.
According to Willis, the government is "rejoicing" at the high demand for the "golden visa": hundreds of people have applied and promised to invest more than a billion dollars in New Zealand funds.
According to the New Zealand Immigration Service, as of August 8, 267 applications for a "golden visa" had been submitted under the updated program. More than 40% of applicants are US citizens.
