New Zealand plans to increase the influx of highly skilled migrants by simplifying the procedure for obtaining a permanent residence permit for them, writes New Straits Times. Similar measures have already been applied by many countries competing for labor.
New Zealand Immigration Minister Michael Woods said that artificial restrictions on the number of residence permits granted annually, which are in effect today, will be lifted.
From October 2023, the government will also simplify the scoring system used to select qualified migrants, which will help speed up the processing of applications and give applicants more confidence that they meet the requirements.
"We know that many industries need employees, and a global labor shortage is hurting production," Woods added.
