The new EU Entry and Exit System (EES), which has been gradually implemented since October 2025 and entered into full force in the Schengen countries on April 10, has caused massive delays at the borders. According to airports and travelers, the waiting time at passport control reaches three hours, and some passengers miss their flights.
The main problems are related to non-functioning self-service kiosks and lack of staff. Travelers' fingerprints are not read, additional delays occur when flying with children, and check-in often has to be done again at each stage of the journey, even if it has already been completed.
Tourists note the complete unpredictability of the system: in some airports it already works, in others it does not.
Thus, the EES, launched to strengthen control at the external borders of the Schengen area, has so far turned into a collapse for air hubs. Travelers from non-Schengen countries are now at risk of experiencing many hours of delays.
