Immediately after the announcement of Burgas as the host of Eurovision 2027, rental prices skyrocketed during the event. Offers reaching 25,000 euros per night in an ordinary apartment have appeared on booking platforms, which is 35 times higher than its usual cost. Homeowners are recording record demand for the dates of the competition next May.
Landlords talk about the real hype in the first hours after the official announcement. Alexander Fotev, who rents out six apartments in the center of Burgas, said that all the available dates from May 1 to May 28 were booked even before he had time to finish a phone conversation with friends who told him the news. Prices, according to him, increased by 150-200 euros per night, but he called the offers that appeared on the sites absolutely unrealistic.
According to data from major booking platforms, about 99% of affordable housing is available during the Eurovision Song Contest (May 11th-15th) They're already busy. The most expensive options are offered near the coast. Three-day stay in an apartment of about 70 sq. m. m will cost 12,322 euros, which exceeds 4,100 euros per night. Other options in the center and by the sea cost from 1,430 to 927 euros per night, and in the Sarafovo area prices reach 1,500 euros.
In contrast to Burgas, there is a massive cancellation of bookings in Sofia. After the capital lost its status as the host of the competition, about a third of the previously placed orders for May next year were canceled within a few hours. Apartment management company manager Todor Kolev noted that if Eurovision had stayed in Sofia, prices for two-bedroom apartments in the center would have increased from the current 100 to 120 to 300 to 350 euros per night.
The Consumer Protection Commission intervened in the situation. Its chairman, Alexander Kolyachev, called the announcement of an apartment for rent for 118,000 euros per week "comical." He stressed that there is no shortage of places in Burgas - the city can accommodate more than 200,000 guests, and about 90,000 tourists are expected, which is comparable to Vienna in 2026. Kolyachev said that the regulator will check the ads for unfair practices and intends to strengthen control ahead of the competition.
