The unexpected leader was Estonia, which has surpassed traditional favorites due to affordable prices, well-developed infrastructure and friendly visa policy. According to the study, a studio apartment in the center of an Estonian city will cost an average of 573 euros per month, and groceries - 248 euros. An important advantage is the highest level of security among all the analyzed states. The Internet speed in Estonia is also recognized as quite sufficient for comfortable remote work.
Iceland is in second place in the rating. Iceland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe (rent 2,098 euros, groceries 542 euros), but it compensates for this with the highest Internet speed, a large number of coworking spaces and accommodation on Airbnb, as well as high the level of security and eventful life.
closes the top threePortugal A long-time favorite of digital nomads. An annual visa here costs 80 euros, rent in the city center costs an average of 919 euros, but the country attracts excellent Internet, high English and well-developed infrastructure for remote work.
The top four countries are Montenegro, which offers the longest visa in Europe for up to 730 days with a minimum fee of 26 euros. Rent and groceries are among the most affordable here (576 euros and 211 euros, respectively), but the country is inferior in terms of quality of medicine.
Closes the top five Croatia with a 540-day visa, a high level of security and affordable housing (rent 663 euros, groceries 232 euros), but with the lowest Internet speed in the list of analyzed countries.
The top ten also includes Slovenia, Czech Republic, Spain, Lithuania and Romania. Each of these countries offers remote workers a beneficial combination of cost of living, infrastructure, and visa conditions, although it has its drawbacks.
At the opposite pole of the rating were countries that digital nomads are advised to avoid. Ireland took the last place - despite the high level of English and the presence of coworking spaces, it loses due to expensive rentals, average security indicators and, most importantly, the lack of a special visa. Switzerland was in the penultimate place for the same reasons - with fast Internet and good security, there is no visa for remote workers, and prices for food and rent (1,785 euros) are extremely high.
Belarus and Bosnia and Herzegovina were also included in the anti-rating (due to poor infrastructure and lack of visas) and, unexpectedly, France. The most visited country in the world has proved unpopular with digital nomads due to its low level of English, lack of a special visa, and the worst security rating, despite excellent healthcare and high Internet speed.
