Hungary's tourism industry is booming due to an unprecedented number of foreign tourists, a surge in domestic travel and high income from accommodation.
The president of the Hungarian Travel Agency (MTU), Zoltan Guller, said that last year Hungarian hotels received more than 18 million tourists, which is 11% more than in 2023. Of the 18 million, 9.3 million domestic travelers and 8.7 million foreign visitors. Guller stressed that the increase in the number of nights spent in Hungary "exceeded the European Union (EU) average by 150%."
Preliminary data showed that Budapest's Ferenc Liszt International Airport handled about 17 million passengers in 2024, up 17% from the previous year.
Budapest attracted almost 6 million foreign tourists. This is 24% more than in 2023.Tourism remains a key factor in the Hungarian economy, contributing almost 13% to GDP.
