Bulgaria expects to become a full member of the Schengen area by the end of this year.
Sofia authorities expressed hope that the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area will soon be fully completed, reports Schengen.News.
Bulgaria and Romania became members of the Schengen Area by Sea and Air on March 31, 2024. Border control at the land borders remains for the time being.
On October 10, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson, together with the Hungarian Interior Minister, will submit to the Council of the European Union a proposal to abolish checks at land borders.Hungary also hopes that a decision on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the land border will be made before the end of 2024.
