The Finnish Government has proposed to tighten the rules for issuing residence permits.
Now, in order to obtain a permanent residence permit, foreigners must continuously reside in Finland for six years.
However, you can apply for a permanent residence permit, even if you have lived in the country for only four years. To do this, you must meet the criteria:
- Annual income of 40,000 euros.
- A master's or postgraduate degree recognized by the Finnish authorities, as well as two years of work experience. Good command of Finnish or Swedish.
The Government's proposal to amend the Law on Foreigners was submitted on January 27 and is open for comment until March 7.
