The Portuguese government has proposed to introduce a new investment option for non-residents of the European Union wishing to obtain a residence permit (residence permit) of Portugal. New option means an investment of ˆ350 000 in research or the Humanities, or ˆ500 000 – to the restoration of objects of cultural heritage of the country and the acquisition of real estate.
The amount of such investments will be reduced by 20% if investments are made in sparsely populated regions of Portugal, where less than 100 persons per square kilometre.
The new initiative will be considered by the Portuguese Parliament on 12 March 2015 under the existing investment programme the Golden Residence Permit (GRP).
"We welcome the offer of the government of Portugal to improve the program of obtaining a "Golden visa". The revival in the property market and the return of investor interest in the country can be partially attributed to the success of this program, which brought in the economy ˆ1.2 billion, 80% of which came through the acquisition of real estate,” – says Andrew Coutts, managing partner of Henley & Partners Portugal, serving as an Advisor to the governments of various countries in developing and implementing programs of investment citizenship.
At a press conference presenting a new initiative of the government, Deputy Prime Minister of Portugal Paulo Portas (Paulo Portas) noted that as a result of a corruption scandal in November 2014, will introduce new rigid rules of supervision and regulation of the program.
