One of the districts of the Czech capital Prague-1 proposed to increase the tourist tax after other European cities.
Currently, the tourist fee is CZK 50 (about 2 euros) per person per night.Local officials believe that this is not enough, since in other EU cities tourists pay an average of 7 euros per night.
In 2022, Prague has already raised this tax from 0.87 euros (21 kronor) to 2 euros (50 kronor). This made it possible in 2023, thanks to the large influx of tourists, to collect a record amount. Additional millions can be invested in cultural and historical projects, according to the Prague Tourism Authority.
