According to the local English-language daily Khmer Times, the $2.3 billion Techo International Airport (TIA) has replaced the old international airport that served the country's capital for almost 70 years.
"I am confident that TIA will become a catalyst for Cambodia's economic and tourism growth, helping to attract more investors and tourists," said Hung Manet, speaking at the opening ceremony.TIA Airport, with a 4-kilometer-long dual runway, is capable of receiving all types of aircraft.
Initially, the airport's capacity will be up to 13 million passengers per year, and by 2050 it is planned to increase it to 50 million.
Work on the construction of the airport began in 2020, the contractor was the Chinese State Construction and Engineering Corporation.
