The final version is softer than the initial one, but, nevertheless, the limitations are significant.
Citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as legal entities created or controlled by them, can no longer buy real estate in Lithuania. Exceptions are people who have a residence permit or permanent residence, as well as entering into inheritance rights.
Citizens of Belarus are not prohibited from buying real estate in Lithuania.
Other measures not related to real estate ownership have also been introduced. The reception of visa applications in the visa services of Lithuania abroad and applications for a residence permit from citizens of Russia and Belarus has been suspended.
In addition, the law states that the movement of Russian citizens across the external border of the European Union to the territory of Lithuania is subject to individual additional detailed verification.
The law comes into force on May 3, 2023 and will be valid until May 2, 2024.
