Trump suspends the Diversity Immigrant Visa green card program, which allows foreigners from countries whose immigrants are poorly represented in the United States to obtain the right to permanent residence in the United States.
The decision was made after the shooting at Brown University on December 13.
Suspect< span style="font-weight: normal;"> physics student from Portugal< span style="font-weight: normal;">& was a participant in this program. He arrived on a student visa in 2000, won a green card in 2017 and then became the owner of an American passport.
In 2025, almost 20 million people applied to participate in the lottery. Up to 50,000 green cards are provided annually.Source: Forbes
