Last week, the Latvian parliament supported a bill prohibiting citizens of Russia and Belarus from purchasing real estate in the country. The decision is not final yet. To enter into force, the initiative must be adopted in two more readings.
It is also planned to introduce a similar ban for legal entities registered in Russia or Belarus, for example, enterprises or charitable organizations. The restrictions will also apply to legal entities in which citizens of these countries own at least 25% of shares or in which citizens of Russia or Belarus are the ultimate beneficiaries.
As the parliamentarians explain, the measure is aimed at strengthening national security.
