The Swiss Federal Council has announced that the quota for hiring workers from countries outside the Schengen area will remain at the level of last year. The authorities will allow to hire 8,500 foreign citizens from countries outside the Schengen area.
As noted, 4,500 employees will receive a residence permit of category B, and 4,000 will receive a short-term residence permit of category L.
By keeping the quota for foreign specialists unchanged, Switzerland wants to ensure that the country's economy does not face a shortage of labor.
In 2023 and as of the current moment in 2024, the quotas have not been fully used up. Last year, only 78% of quotas were used, and this year only about 63%.
