Spain: demand by foreigners for housing is growing, but the number of Russians decreased by 13%

In the first six months of 2016 of foreign demand for residential and commercial properties in Spain increased by a substantial 19.7 percent, according to the portal Spanish Property Insight , citing data from the Chamber of notaries of Spain.

Thus, today, 20.3 per cent of all real estate transactions in the Spanish market accounts for foreigners – compared to 6.3% in 2008.

Non-residents spend on average on the Spanish housing amount of ˆ1855 per square meter, while the market average, the figure is ˆ1350 / 1 sq. m.

Most foreign buyers accounted for the province of Valencia (11 853, +16,6%), Andalusia (8527, + 14,3%), Catalonia (6583, +20,8%), Canary Islands (5006, +20,6%), Madrid (3493, +19,1%) and Balearic Islands (3207, +28%).

The demand of the British people – the main group of buyers of Spanish housing has decreased in connection with the Brexit, but they are still in the lead by number of deals. So, the Brits have 8282 transactions (+15,7). Followed by French (3479, +8,9%), Germans (3413, +23,1%), Italians (2815, +34,4%), Swedish (2579, +41,2%) and the Belgians. The only countries, the demand for Spanish housing from the side which fell, were the Russians (-13,1%), the Norwegians and the Swiss (-4,8%).
