According to the global website of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), 5,600 Russians visited Japan in the first half of 2024. This is an impressive 135% more than in the same period last year.
However, compared to the first half of 2019, the figure is 10 times less. Then the tourist flow from the Russian Federation amounted to 55,600. One of the reasons that visits have decreased is the lack of direct flights between the countries.
Most tourists come to Japan from South Korea, China (with Hong Kong and Taiwan) and the United States.
