Dubai has started a key stage of the construction of the Blue Metro Line - the laying of tunnels has begun.
The new line will stretch for 30 km, of which 15.5 km will pass underground, and 14.5 km along overpasses. There will be 14 stations on the route, including 4 underground, 7 flyover and 3 transfer hubs. The project will connect the Red and Green Lines, passing through areas such as Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khoz.
The key station will be the International City 1 underground hub, designed for 350,000 passengers per day. In general, the new branch line will provide transport accessibility for nine districts, where about 1 million people will live according to the Dubai 2040 development plan.
The main character of the construction site was the Al Wugeisha super excavator, named after a desert rodent famous for its burrowing skills. The machine will drill tunnels from the International City 1 station in three directions at once to Mirdif, the automobile market and Al Warsan. After the opening of the Blue Line, travel time for residents of the International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis areas will be reduced from more than an hour to less than 40 minutes. In addition, the new branch line will relieve the emirate's road network by 20%, which will be a significant contribution to the development of urban mobility in Dubai.
According to the plan, the launch of the Blue Metro Line will take place on September 9, 2029.
