From September 1, 2022, Thailand will start issuing a new 10-year LTR (Long Term Relationship) visa. The corresponding the decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers in May.
Qualified specialists engaged in high-tech industries, such as the production of electric vehicles, biotechnology and electronics, will be eligible for a long-term visa.
In addition, the visa is intended for employees of foreign companies who want to settle in Thailand as digital nomads. The income of a specialist or entrepreneur performing tasks remotely for a foreign employer or customer must be at least $80,000 per year.
Wealthy foreigners whose assets exceed $ 1 million and pensioners with a stable income will also be able to get a visa.
Visa holders will be taxed at a lower rate of 17%, as opposed to the 35% levied on income exceeding $140,000 per year.
Programs to attract digital nomads have already been introduced by 33 countries. Many States are trying to restore the tourism sector affected by the pandemic at the expense of foreigners working remotely at resorts. For example, Visa announced the imminent introduction of Digital Nomad Indonesia, which aims to increase the number of guests in Bali.
